What do I need to know?

Field Day is a living experiment that will change with us all as we learn and improve.  One ideal we hold dear is a light touch on the land.  That means we want to be sustainable, gentle, and self-sufficient.

If everyone tries their darndest to reduce event waste (camping plates pair better with hot dogs than paper plates), reuse (hand-me-downs anyone?), and share (a blanket, a ride, a bite of that delicious-looking sandwich you're holding) it'll go a long way in making this event last a long while.

Are there minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Nope, but we are considering a push-up contest as entry requirement.

Families and dogs welcome!  Best bring a leash for the dog, because the cows scare easily.  Kids can run feral.

What are my transport & parking options?

Have you heard?  Carpooling is the new black!  (but we do have limited parking in the field)

Keeping Safe

You assume responsibility/risk for yourself and your children.  No smoking on the property. Numerous flammable products around the farm, even in the house.

No use of farm equipment by visitors. No climbing on the grain bins; best to stay away from them. We have fans running in these and they are full of grain—can be life threatening.  There are open pits/but covered in several buildings and by the grain bins. Advised to stay away from these areas.

There is large equipment, trucks, and a variety of farm workers driving through the fields and yards dependent on the season...be alert to traffic; especially young children. The drivers of the large equipment may not expect to have people on the property.

There may be cattle in the pastures south and north of the main road on the west side of the house. The south pasture has one wire that is integrated into the fence and it is electric! Don’t touch. Do not go into the pasture inside the fence with the cattle. Cattle may seem tame, but they are unpredictable.
